How Well Do We Really Understand Ourselves?

In the light of all these reports of sexual misconduct allegations by men, what is really going on here? Why is misconduct by men so prevalent?

“Masturbation [on its own] is simply us recognizing that touch feels good, no different than eating when we’re hungry,” Quandra Chaffers, LCSW, added. “Our society is still very puritanical and afraid of pleasure. I don’t want to go down the route of demonizing masturbation.” … BUT, … the urge to masturbate while forcing unwilling people to watch stems not only from the desire for power and control but also from feelings of anger, weakness, humiliation and shame.

“There is no clinical term, it’s just shame,” Psychoanalyst Dayle M. Kramer said. “Not a particular kind of shame, people may feel it in different ways. We don’t know whether this person was bullied or shamed themselves in their childhood, we don’t know what caused them to want to shame others and shame themselves.”

When asked whether or not exhibitionist disorder ― or someone acting on an urge to display, fondle or stimulate themselves in front of a stranger ― was a possible motivating factor, Kramer responded with caution.

“You have to look at what exhibitionist disorder really means,” she said. “Why are they exhibiting themselves? What is the gain? And what is it that they’re trying to do? You still have to really talk to the person to find out, you just can’t label people.”

Sex therapist Alexandra Katehakis, who was interviewed by The Cut, described non-consensual masturbation as a manifestation of “sexualized hostility” against their victims, which can sometimes be traced back to childhood trauma or abuse. Kramer seconded this possibility.

“Developmentally, we all go through different phases,” she said. “[Masturbation] would be [linked to] a phase in this person’s development they weren’t able to complete or finish. We see different pieces of ourselves stuck in different phases, and our behavior reflects that.

Chaffers, however, took issue with the idea that victims of childhood sexual abuse, in particular, are more likely to become perpetrators of sexual abuse as adults.

#MAGA through understanding, empathy, education, and cultural change. If the Deist ‘God’ does exist, as postulated by our nation’s Founders, then how do we create a society where all citizens – regardless of ethnicity, gender, or orientation – are found to be #inhisimage #inhislikeness and worthy of elevating, not denigrating?
Only when #alllivesmatter and all humans are deserving of equal rights and treatment under the law, only then will the United States be a nation worthy of emulation by the rest of the world.

So, You Think The United States Is A ‘Christian Nation’, Do You?

Do you believe that you are pretty good at discerning the truth? That you can tell when someone is teaching you a bold face lie? Do you feel that you are open enough to question whether what you’ve been taught is the full truth, and nothing but the truth? Especially, if you see and hear it from the mouth of those who lived it? How would you feel to learn that you’ve been raised believing in a false narrative of American history?

Were you taught that the United States was founded as a “Judeo-Christian” nation? Wouldn’t you want to know whether this is actually the truth or not, historically? If so, would you be willing to hear the written words of our nation’s Founders on what the United States is based upon? If so, again, then read the written words of those who gave their very lives to the founding of this nation, the United States of America, a nation that gave to the world its very first “people’s democracy”:

Thomas Jefferson: “In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.” – in a letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814, and “But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say that there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” – in Notes on the State of Virginia, 1784

Thomas Paine: “The Heathens paid divine honours to their deceased kings, and the Christian World hath improved on the plan by doing the same to their living ones.” – in Common Sense, 1776, and “The priests of the present day, profess to believe it. They gain their living by it, and they exclaim against something they call infidelity. I will define what it is. HE THAT BELIEVES IN THE STORY OF CHRIST IS AN INFIDEL TO GOD.” – in Age of Reason, 1794-95, 1807

John Adams: “Since the promulgation of Christianity, the two greatest systems of tyranny that have sprung from this original, are the canon (the Bible) and the feudal law… Let us tenderly and kindly cherish therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.” – in A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law, 1765, and “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” – in a letter to Abigail Adams, July 7, 1775

Benjamin Franklin: “If we look back into history for the character of present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution.” – in a letter to the London Packet, June 3, 1772, and “Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.” – in The New-England Courant, July 9, 1722

George Washington: “I beg you be persuaded that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution.” – in a letter to the United Baptist Churches of Virginia, May 1789, and “There is nothing which can better deserve your patronage, than the promotion of science and literature. Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of public happiness.” – in his First Annual Message to Congress on the State of the Union, January 8, 1790

Alexander Hamilton: “In politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution.” – in the Federalist, No. 1, October 27, 1787, and “The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.” – in The Farmer Refuted, February 23, 1775

James Madison: “And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in showing that religion and Government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.” – in a letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822, and “The people are the only legitimate fountain of power, and it is from them that the constitutional charter, under which the several branches of government hold their power, is derived.” – in The Federalist, No. 49, February 2, 1788

James Wilson: “In a state of natural liberty, every one is allowed to act according to his own inclination, provided he transgress not those limits, which are assigned to him by the law of nature: in a state of civil liberty, he is allowed to act according to his inclination, provided he transgress not those limits, which are assigned to him by the municipal law.” – in Of the Natural Rights of Individuals, 1790, and “Government, in my humble opinion, should be formed to secure and to enlarge the exercise of the natural rights of its members; and every government, which has not this in view, as its principal object, is not a government of the legitimate kind.” – in Of the Natural Rights of Individuals, 1790

John Jay: “The moral or natural law was given by the Sovereign of the universe to all mankind; with them it was coeval, and with them it will be coexistent. Being founded by infinite wisdom and goodness on essential right, which never varies, it can require no amendment nor alteration.” – in a letter to John Murray, April 15, 1818, and “Real Christians will abstain from violating the rights of others, and therefore will not provoke war. Almost all nations have peace or war at the will and pleasure of rulers whom they do not elect, and who are not always wise or virtuous.” – in a letter to John Murray, October 12, 1816 – In all fairness, John Jay was the only Founder of the United States that perceived the U.S. as a “Christian nation” that should choose “Christians for their rulers.”, a proposition that all the other prominent Founders of our nation thoroughly disagreed with!

Joel Barlow: “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen (Muslims).” – in Treaty of Tripoli, November 4, 1796, which he negotiated and drafted with a Muslim nation

Ethan Allen: “While we are under the tyranny of Priests, it will ever be their interest, to invalidate the law of nature and reason, in order to establish systems incompatible therewith.” – in Reason the Only Oracle of Man, 1784

Richard Allen (yes, he was a Founder of the U.S.): “If you love your children, if you love your country, if you love the God of love, clear your hands from slaves, burden not your children or your country with them.” – in An Address To Those Who Keep Slaves and Uphold the Practice, 1794

Abigail Adams (yes, she was a Founder of the U.S.): “Believing that the Father alone, is the supreme God, and that Jesus Christ derived his Being, and all his powers and honors from the Father … There is not any reasoning which can convince me, contrary to my senses, that three is one, and one three.” – in letter to John Quincy Adams, May 5, 1816, and “When will Mankind be convinced that true Religion is from the Heart, between Man and his creator, and not the imposition of Man or creeds and tests?” – in letter to Louisa Adams, January 3, 1818

Christians and Americans in general are being taught a lie – that this nation is founded on “Judeo-Christian” values, that this nation is a “Christian nation” from its birth, and that we are drifting away from our “Godly” roots. This is simply not true historically!

The simple historical truth is that the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and other documents like it were a formal rejection of Judeo-Christian values and an embracement of 17-18th century European Enlightenment values – that of secular self-rule, spreading mercantile capitalism, and advancing the scientific revolution. Theism was replaced with Deism, fear of the future was replaced with belief in the future, the Ten Commandments was replaced with the civil Constitution, the church-ordained King was replaced with a people-elected President, rule by church-backed monarchy was replaced with three co-equal separate branches of government, and religion was separated from the affairs of civil governance. There can be no democracy in a nation where theocratic beliefs and laws are held supreme in civil legislative discourse – for this stands against the very concept of a people’s democracy!

Don’t trust me on this, like I wouldn’t ask you to trust your preachers. Learn for yourself, by studying – honestly and objectively – the history of the United States for yourself! Interestingly, it is a rejection of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and methods of self-regulation to make claim that our modern democratic methods of governance are Judeo-Christian based. But, humans are well known for contradicting and distorting beliefs, when it makes them feel good and important and serves their specific interests.

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war…”

Today’s battlefield is an asymmetrical field, a polarized populace divided by racial, religious, nationalist, and political lines. On one side are the radicalized Right and on the other side are defiant Left, the white evangelical conservative supremacists that are mostly Christian and mostly Republican at war with the secular liberal constitutionally progressive globalists that are mostly Agnostic and mostly Democrat. The question posed before history is whether the “government of the people, by the people, for the people” will survive intact, or will this nation “perish from the earth”?

Until we, as a nation, address our unfinished Civil War between the Confederacy and the Union, between white Christian supremacist racism and a multi-ethnic/religious citizenry demanding equal treatment under United States law, history cannot make its final determination. — Quotes in this paragraph set are from President Abraham Lincoln’s November 19, 1863, Gettysburg Address.

What is science? What is the difference between science and pseudoscience?

Do you know what science is? Are you sure? Can you tell the difference between what is honest well-researched science that is based on verified evidence, and what is philosophy and religion dressing itself up as legitimate scientific research? If you can’t the difference, because you are not sure what science really is, then don’t you think it is important to learn how science arrives at conclusions – before embracing any claim to knowledge and certainty that happens to spark your interest and hopes, all because it sounds good or feels good? What if what you’ve been thinking are scientific proofs and truths are, in fact, refuted by real science? Are you willing to embrace what really is the reality, based upon the well-tested evidence that supports it? Do you know what science is? If not, would you like to know? …

In a nutshell, as I’ve heard it said, science is the cautious effort to discern fact from fiction, to discern what is real and what is belief only, based upon rigorous questioning, testing, and drawing conclusions from the evidence. Science proposes theories about this reality that are, then, tested. Science seeks the evidence that actually exists, whether it validates or invalidates the theory that is proposed. If the majority of evidence stacks firmly against the theorized belief, then the theory is discarded and a new theory is proposed. In fact, science has rewarded scientists with Nobel prizes for having debunked by evidence what was established scientific beliefs, and this willingness to change beliefs based on sufficient evidence is what advances the accuracy in knowledge and know-how of modern science. Nothing is taken for granted, and there are no absolute inviolable pre-ordained truths. Science is not afraid of seeking for truth, but science does not accept established belief as truth without the rigorously tested peer-reviewed evidence that supports it. As well, one of the main objectives of science is to continuously test our cherished beliefs, deliberately looking for weaknesses and instances that debunk our present beliefs. It is only through doing this that we know what is true and what is false, what is real and what is not real. …

In contrary, religion and pseudoscience, take a deliberately opposite stance. With pseudoscience – whether it be philosophical, cultural, or religious based – the pre-determined belief being upheld and being called a “fact” is presented to followers and to the general public as an absolute inviolable pre-ordained truth. In other words, it has already been declared (by belief alone) as an established fact, and the evidence is out there somewhere that proves it – if you have enough faith and belief to connect the dots. As I personally like to explain it, with pseudoscience pretending to be science the arrow is shot into the tree first and, then, the bull’s–eye is drawn very carefully around it to demonstrate how it must obviously be true. Therefore, all research that is engaged in is done strictly to prove this pseudo-truth. Pseudoscientists put great effort into sifting from all the evidence only such evidence that supports their believed-in truth, and they discard any methodology and any evidence (no matter how great!) that disproves their cherished beliefs as being false methods and data (and they, then, call this science!). Some popular pseudosciences of today include germ theory denial, the anti-vaccine movement, beliefs that extraterrestrials are visiting earth or seeded the human race on earth (UFO movements), Creation Science, Flat Earthers, Flood geology, climate change denial, and so forth and so on. All of these mix fervent religious belief with a poor understanding of the Scientific Method, or by deliberately avoiding addressing and using the process of real science. What good is belief, if it is easily disprovable, right? …

Now, take an honest moment to look closely at the beliefs that you have accepted from others, and dare to ask yourself: Are these beliefs I’ve accepted based in science or pseudoscience? Do I wish to actually know what is real and what is not? Does it really benefit me and others around me to believe in false truths about this reality we call life? Or is it really more dangerous to do this? Am I willing to question and change my mind based on sufficient evidence being presented to me? Do I know what real science is?

If we raise a generation of students who do not understand the process of science, the methods of discerning factual knowledge, or who are fearful of science that contradicts established social beliefs – because they don’t understand science – and readily give creedance to pretend science that feeds upon this ignorance, then we are headed as a nation towards the superstitious thinking of the past that has failed to resolve all of the challenges we have successfully addressed in our Scientific Method times.

It’s What You Know For Sure That Isn’t So That Gets Everyone In Trouble

‘‘It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.’’ – Mark Twain

Imagine being born and raised in a world of humans where, most of the time, everyone looks just like you. Imagine being taught incessantly that all fundamental absolute truths are found only in just one book alone, and that your parents, teachers, and preachers are the authoritative interpreters of what this book is saying is sole truth. Imagine being taught all your life that those who disagree with the absolute truths, as interpreted by the religion you were born into, or dare offer a different view of this world are sinners and “God haters” or, even worse, misguided and possessed by demons who are trying to steer you – specifically – away from this truth. Imagine growing up in a community where education and learning new things is only acceptable up to the point where such learning could now potentially disagree with the beliefs and truths of the community – and, if it disagrees with community truths, then it is a lie, plain and simple. Imagine growing up in a community where you are taught that only your community knows what is true and good, that only your community is civil and righteous, and that all other communities and physical/cultural ethnicities are less than you, because they are caught up in sin and destined for hellish destruction. Imagine growing up in a community where you are subtly and innoculously taught to fear ever going astray from community’s doctrines of belief and faith, lest you be eternally damned for it.

If you can imagine this, then you can understand the fundamentalist communities that make up a great majority of this planetary world of humans. If you can imagine this and live in the United States, then you can understand the beliefs and the plight of the majority of white rural Christian Americans. You can understand that political, religious, and capitalist charlatans have played upon this community mindset for decades, distorting their understanding of American history and why their communities have fallen from middle class prosperity to near third world poverty. You can understand why they insist defiantly on believing that it is outside forces and people who have put them into the social economic place they now find themselves. If you can imagine the world from the heartfelt believed fully in perspective of white rural Christian Americans, then you can understand why they refuse to see the rational self-evident facts of life, and why they are so staunchly resisting even the temptation to see another’s truth. The only way I know of to “possibly” reach these people – until they themselves are willing to change their views – is to somehow help/guide them into seeing you as a friend and not a threat, and to somehow help/guide them into seeing the struggles of others in a directly “self”-personal way. Until then, there is no other successful way to address the virulent fundamentalist nationalist supremacist mindset of a good majority of present day United States citizens.

Clinton’s America – courtesy of NYT “The Two Americas of 2016

The Confederacy mindset is alive and fully well in today’s United States of America, and an asymmetrical second Civil War may be on the verge of happening. Like in the 1800’s, the Founders “democratic experiment” may be under a survival test, yet again, here in the 2000’s. Throughout the world, there is battle going on between fundamentalist nationalism and democratic globalism. But, more specifically here in the United States, the battle is still about the unaddressed issues fought over during the first American Civil War. Until the white population of the United States of America actively embraces #TruthandReconciliation, like Africa and Canada has done, and embraces #RestorativeJustice, then this cycle of white fundamentalist nationalism and supremacy will continue on unabated here in the United States, and no constructive change for the better will happen. That is until – ultimately – demographic changes take over, rendering the white population of America so minor in numbers that they are now forced to change their views about their place in this world. I hope that it doesn’t have to come to this to see an American Enlightenment that rivals the European Enlightenment that birthed forth our nation!

There Is Only One Real Priority Difference Between Republicans And Democrats

“I consider knowledge to be the soul of a republic,… Education is the way to do this, and nothing should be left undone to afford all ranks of people that means” – John Jay, U.S. Founder, 1785

There is only one real priority difference between Republicans and Democrats, between social Conservatives and social Liberals, and it is critically significant! Our nation’s Founders were quite educated, near all of them top college graduates of their day, which explains why near all of them valued their liberal political/civil values as the inherent “natural rights of man” and, with this, valued education of the populous as the *key assurance* for the survival of our republican democracy, our People’s democracy. In the 2015 and 2016 PEW survey’s of the general public across the political spectrum, snapshots attached, that shows what Republicans, Democrats, and Independents basically agree on in public policy, what is most striking is the absence of “education” as a priority among citizens who are Republican constituents. In contrast, education is a high policy priority for citizens who are Democrat and Independent constituents. This strongly explains in itself the reason for such an extreme partisan divide in the United States between so-called “Conservatives” and so-called “Liberals” – between the “fake news” vulnerable citizens who are devout to the “party line” and those who are devout about civil liberties but are willing to reconsider their political positions.

Education opens the mind to new ideas and new ways of viewing the world, a liberalization of the mind through increased knowledge about the world. A lack of education lends itself to extreme ideologies, not based on facts, but based on self-comforting feelings about one’s place, status, or security within this world – a close-mindedness reaction to the world. Hence, the extreme politically polarized divides on critical issues such as race relations, gun violence, religion, education, and so forth that presently exists within the United States of America. Nearly 50 percent of the populous is not properly educated, but they *do* vote! If we want our democratic Republic to actually be a “great” nation in this world, then we must focus upon helping the Republican constituency of the United States to see the value in a good and diverse education – as the Founders of this nation insisted upon.

Inoculating The Public From The Fake News And Pseudoscience Crisis

Yes, it is time to inoculate the public to fake news and pseudoscience! This is important research, and we need to be supporting it. As a nation that is supposed to be the more educated and scientifically relevant in the world, we have got to get the general public aware of what is real news and what is fake news, and of what is objective and substantiated science and what is religion pretending to be science.

As a country, we would not have a stolen election and an illegitimately elected 45th president right now – whose administration is filled with climate deniers and believers in pseudoscience over real science, if we had acted as a People a lot sooner to combat “fake news” and religious myth masquerading in the clothing and words of objective scientific research. It’s called inoculating the public against deliberately spread misinformation for the political and financial gain of a select few within society.

#ResistTrump #UnitedWeStand #FakeNews #ClimateDenial

“In medicine we can try to build resistance to infections by injecting people with a weakened strain of the virus or small dose of the virus that will trigger antibodies in people’s immune system to confer resistance. The attitudinal theory of inoculation is exactly the same — in the sense that what we try to do is pre-expose people to a bit of the misinformation… then debunk that information with specific facts. This process helps arm people with what I call a cognitive repertoire to resist basically future encounters with misinformation. That’s the basic idea… We see that we can incrementally protect people’s beliefs about science, through inoculation.” – Dr Sander van der Linden

Fake news’ power to influence shrinks with a contextual warning, study finds
https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/23/fake-news-power-to-influence-shrinks-with-a-contextual-warning-study-finds/
What surprised the researchers most about the results of the study? Firstly how powerful misinformation can be, says van der Linden, but also — on the positive side — that ‘inoculating’ people against misinformation can be effective even if a person has an entrenched prior viewpoint.
“I didn’t anticipate that the misinformation would be so overwhelming for people,” he says. “I would have anticipated that the misinformation would have some influence — but not that it would cancel out the facts completely. I think that was quite surprising and also quite concerning, in some way, that people are paying so much attention to this idea of balance. And it’s tricky for people because they don’t know what the sources are, and how credible each side of the debate is — so it is difficult.”
“Similarly we weren’t sure if inoculating people, depending on their prior position, is going to be effective because some people might already have certain prior beliefs — and we were surprised by the fact that on average the inoculation worked well, regardless of what your affiliation or your prior beliefs were. This is not to say there aren’t individuals in the study for whom it didn’t work — and similarly vaccines work for most people but they can’t guarantee they work for everyone — so I would say that’s very much the same here too. But we were surprised that it worked across the board — and that is quite promising.”
Asked about the global challenge posted by the propagation of misinformation, van der Linden is also relatively upbeat — pointing out that misinformation is nothing new, even though the popularity of social media platforms has led to an amping up of the fake news volume in recent years.

Even In The 13th Century, Some Jews Believed The Earth To Be 15 Billion Years Old

Modern religious Creationists of both Haredi Jewish and, especially, Christian fundamentalists persuasion (the Young Earth Creationism types) would have us believe that the earth and universe is about 5,500 years old (and no greater than 10,000 years). Modern scientists tell us that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old and the universe is about 13.8 billion years old. Now, jump back 700 years to the 13th century, wherein Isaac ben Samuel of Acre and other Orthodox Jewish kabbalists concluded that the earth is actually 49,000 years old and that the universe is 15 billion years old. What?! Did you just ask? Would you like to know how they arrived at this conclusion?

“Rabbi Tanhuma said: In its due time the universe was created. It was not appropriate to be create before then, but it was created in its time, as it is said ‘He made everything beautiful in its time.’ Rabbi Abbahu said: From this we learn that the Holy One, blessed be He, kept on constructing lands and destroying them until he constructed the present one and said, ‘This pleases Me, the others did not.’ Rabbi Eleazar said: This is a door which is opened to the depths, as it says, ‘And God saw everything that He had made and, behold, it was very good.’” – Kohelet Rabbah 3:14, written in the 7th Century C.E./A.D. (Hmmm, so no Jurassic or Cretaceous period for us, then? Shucks.)

Anyone who says that Jewish religious tradition is at odds with modern scientific studies is woefully ignorant of Jewish religious tradition. Most Jews accept the theory of evolution and do not see it in contradiction to our mythic accounts of creation. Sure there are those modern sects of traditional Judaism (the ultra-fundamentalists, like the Haredi) that have taken a Christian-like literalist interpretive approach to Jewish “biblical” texts, but they are actually not in-line historically with Jewish contemplations on the relationship between Jewish religious myths and the (pre-)scientific age objective-made observations of the world around us. Jewish religious thinkers and community leaders had already begun to come to the conclusion centuries before the rise of modern science that the myths of Torah (the Jewish Bible) had hidden times frames by which to reveal the “true” age of things and the order of their developments. And, some of these conclusions and imagined beliefs are quite creative! It is no wonder, then, that so many breakthrough scientists have been Jewish. But, on to the question above. How did the 13th century Jewish kabbalists come to the conclusion that the earth is 49,000 years old and that the universe is 15 billion years old? Are you curious to know?

The 13th century’s Sefer HaTemunah’s take on the Sabbatical cycles and the age of the universe

One of the main concepts in Sefer HaTemunah is that of the connection of the Sabbatical year (Hebrew: Shmita) with sephirot and the creation of more than one world. The author of Sefer HaTemunah believed that worlds are created and destroyed, supporting this theory with a quote from the Midrash, “God created universes and destroys them.”[1] The Talmud (Sanhedrin 97a) states that “Six thousand years shall the world exist, and one [thousand, the seventh], it shall be desolate”.[5] Sefer HaTemunah asserts that this 7000-year cycle is equivalent to one Sabbatical cyle. Because there are seven such cycles per Jubilee, the author concludes that the world will exist for 49,000 years.[1]

According to some sources, the author of Sefer HaTemunah believed that the world was currently in the second Sabbatical cycle, corresponding to Gevurah (Severity), which occurs between the cycles Chesed (Kindness) and Tiferet (Adornment).[6] Sefer HaTemunah offers a description of the final Shmita, Malkuth (Kingdom), as “distinctly utopian” in character. This may explain why the book was widely embraced by Kabbalists.[7]
According to Kaplan[8] the Sabbatical cycles in Sefer HaTemunah can be used as a basis for calculating the age of the universe. While Sefer HaTemunah sees the world as existing in the second cycle, others[9] say it is in the seventh cycle.[1] If so, Adam was created when the universe was 42,000 years old, and six worlds were created and destroyed before the creation of Adam.[1] This thesis was laid out by Rabbi Isaac ben Samuel of Acre, a 13th-century Kabbalist, who said that when calculating the age of the universe, one must use divine years rather than physical years.
“ I, the insignificant Yitzchak of Akko, have seen fit to write a great mystery that should be kept very well hidden. One of God’s days is a thousand years, as it says, “For a thousand years are in Your eyes as a fleeting yesterday.” Since one of our years is 365 ¼ days, a year on High is 365,250 our years.[10] ”

Rabbi Yitzchak of Akko then goes on to explain a value of 49,000 years, but does not proceed with the multiplication, nor the reduction of 49,0000 to 42,000, which is Kaplan’s own interpretation. Kaplan calculates the age of the universe to be 15,340,500,000 years old.[1][11] His reasoning was as follows: as the Midrash states, “A thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday” (Psalm 90:4); a physical year contains 365 ¼ days, which, if multiplied by 1000 would give the length of a divine year as 365,250 physical years; if we are living in the last, 7th Sabbatical cycle, that would mean that the creation as it described in the Bible happened 42,000 divine years ago; to convert this figure to physical years it should be multiplied by 365,250; this gives the result 15,340,500,000 years.[1]

In 1993, Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan wrote that the Big Bang occurred “approximately 15 billion years ago”, calling this “the same conclusion” as the 13th century kabbalists.[1] According to a 2013 estimate by ESA’s Planck project, the age of the universe is 13.798 ± 0.037 billion years.[12] Kaplan also relates to Sefer HaTemunah the idea that Torah teachings are compatible with other areas of modern science. According to Kaplan, Orthodox Jews often challenge the findings of paleontology and geology as conflicting with Torah concepts. But in an “extremely controversial” essay, Israel Lipschitz drew on the writings of Abraham ibn Ezra, Nahmanides, and Bahya ibn Paquda to argue the opposite conclusion: “See how the teachings of our Torah have been vindicated by modern discoveries.” Lipschitz wrote that fossils of mammoths and dinosaurs represent previous Sabbatical cycles in which humans and other beings lived in universes before Adam, and that the Himalayas were formed in a great upheaval, one of the upheavals mentioned in Sefer HaTemunah.[1]

Why Donald Trump And His Administration Deserves No Support Throughout 2017-2020

“Trump clearly resents the dissemination of info that could be viewed as delegitimizing his win in the slightest.” – The Washington Post

Yes, yes. That Trump guy’s Achilles’s heel. It is a patriotic act to “delegitimize” his ill-got position of self-serving power at the expense of the highest office of the land. He lost the General Election of Nov 2016 and clearly so! The “People” of the United States, the decisive majority of its voting citizens, rejected him as President. The only reason he has obtained his position is through a skewed Electoral College vote made on Dec 19th and the intensely partisan-focused Senate confirmation of the results of this skewed Electoral College vote subsequently made in the Senate on Jan 6th. And this up-turned election that stands against the clear voted will of the People of the United States was made fully possible through the galvanizing efforts of the minority white Christian nationalist voters, primarily, and economically hurting voters, secondarily, to the election booths on Nov 8th. By the number of votes, they are the clear minority in America, but they were able to skew the Electoral College results to reflect against “the voted will of the People.” How did they do this? This “illegitimately” gained election win by Donald Trump and his Wall-Street-Evangelical-White-Nationalist administrative partners was achieved very openly and obviously – for those watching the rise of white Christian nationalism in the United States of America – before the very eyes of the inattentive and disbelieving greater U.S. public.

It was achieved through the last eight years of deliberate Republican obstructionism in government (the “shut the Government down” and “do nothing” #GOP in the U.S. Senate and House) and an unrelenting railing of disparaging comments and attitudes towards the first black President of the United States – our 44th President, President Barack Hussein Obama. It was achieved through the constant demonizing of the Obama Administration, the President himself, and his family over the last eight years by Republicans and “Conservative” media, and their constant whining railing against the Liberal-slash-Democratic “godless, atheistic progressive agenda” of the Democratic “Left,” that would dare to stand for civil rights, economic justice, and real populism in the United States (which they call “communism,” but are actually talking about “democratic socialism”). It was achieved through the propaganda rhetoric spewing from religious pulpits across this nation, especially the televangelist ones, and “conservative” media outlets that have been disseminating expressions of fear, bigotry, hate, and false and out-right “fake news” to the masses for decades, to bring easily push-able angst and disillusionment into the public mind about the state of our democracy. More specifically to the time frame of this election, it was achieved through the deliberate and highly intricate “influence campaign” conducted by the Russian Kremlin during this election process to intensify this social media influenced disillusionment occurring in the U.S. populace, so that the citizens of the United States see Trump’s racist, misogynist, xenophobic rants as symbols of strength and change – not the hate and thin-skinned-ness for which these behaviors actually are. And, (Now, we Independent voters and Populist voters and Atheist voters told you so over a year ago!) it was achieved through the targeted political paybacks made against a highly qualified candidate for the job of President, but a candidate who was carrying with her considerable baggage to be targeted and does not have a charismatic personality like that deceptive and habitually lying con man Trump guy. “Perceived” political scores that needed to be settled by the head of the FBI (James Comey, a Republican who has unsuccessfully investigated the Clintons several times in the past) and the top man of Russia (Vladimir Putin, who himself gained power illegitimately in 2011, and blamed “Hillary” across the seas for all the rioting that occurred in Russia afterwards), thus discrediting the only candidate actually qualified for the job of President that was running in this election.

So, the #Trump guy has obvious and valid good reasons to be concerned about the U.S. public treating his “win” as an ill-gotten and illegitimate achievement, because it is true! He deserves to have the populace – who clearly by majority vote, by “the will of the People,” gave him the decisive and undeniable “No!” rejection vote, #NotMyPresident, in this #election2016 – seek to remind him daily that he does not have the support of the greater majority of United States citizens. Facts are simply facts, no matter how many times and how many ways you try to respin it, Trump, through your own mouth and “tweets” and through the mouths and tweets of the many puppets you’ve assigned to speak for you – to “explain” you to the general public. There is no reason for the citizens of the United States to ever unite behind Donald Trump and his proposed Wall-Street-Evangelical-Alt-Right administration. The clear majority of U.S. citizens, 73.6 million of us, said #NotOurPresident to the Trump guy choice, and we all meant this when we casted our votes. We must keep in mind (by continuously publicly voicing it) that 10.67 million more Americans voted against the Trump guy, than the total amount that voted for him. And we must keep in mind that 2.86 million more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton as President, than all the votes made for that Trump guy. We must also keep in mind that the election was decided in just a few states, by electoral college numbers, *at the disenfranchisement* of most of the voters across the United States. And, we must definitely keep in mind and keep our focus on what the majority of U.S. citizens want for this country: a livable way of life that is based in a “level playing field” of justice, fairness, and opportunity for all our citizens.

These are just the facts of the 2016 Presidential Election. That Trump guy deserves no reprieve from this any day during the next four years, deserves to be reminded of it daily (regardless of his thin-skinned nature), and deserves no support from the People of the United States for his Wall-Street-Evangelical-Alt-Right #TrumpAdministration – the United States citizens deserve better than this! Continue to #Resist with the facts and with attentive populist-mindedness. It’s the patriotic thing to do! It’s time for the #NationalPopularVote movement in the United States of America, so the voice of the People is actually heard and listened too by our legislative and political bodies during our democratic processes!

Why the media can’t dismiss Trump’s call on Congress to investigate an NBC report
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/01/06/why-the-media-cant-dismiss-trumps-call-on-congress-to-investigate-an-nbc-report/?utm_term=.9d48d3b4076f
While Trump’s pride might have been wounded by the thought that journalists received information before he did, the incoming president probably will have a hard time getting members of Congress too worked up about these leaks. Trump clearly resents the dissemination of info that could be viewed as delegitimizing his win in the slightest, but even Republicans appear uncomfortable with his effort to undermine intelligence agencies’ conclusions about Russian interference.

Conversion Therapy Is Unnecessary Religious Pseudoscience, Like Creationism

“Pirke Abot, chapter 5, section 10, states: “There are four attitudes among men: He that says, “What is mine is mine and what is yours is yours” – this is the average attitude; but some [Sages] say that this is the attitude of the Sodomites….” A Sodomite is described here as being a person who accepts no responsibility for the poor in his community. He owes them nothing.” – Rabbi Gershon Steinberg-Caudill

Sedom v’Gemorah (Sodom and Gomorrah) were ancient plant-cultivating cities, and their very names are references to this fertile and, thus, prosperous lands. The crimes (sins) of these legendary cities in Torah and extended TaNaKh (the Jewish Bible) and in the Talmud are the crimes of selfish indulgence and utter lack of hospitality toward strangers. This is made clear in the Torah legend with the extreme behavior of “all” the men of the city, from “youth” to “old man,” towards the messengers of Avram’s god (Avraham) that arrived to the city. “All” the men of the city came to Lot’s home intent on raping these messengers, an act of extreme violence symbolizing extreme inhospitality. The intent or “moral” of the Torah myth is to compare the character and quality of Avraham’s and Lot’s families, the displaced tribal family, to the settled and indulgent city-dwellers.

Sadly, among many European and American “Judeo-Christian” modern religious traditions these passages are erroneously translated as cities given to homosexuality and this is the reason for their destruction, and that it is evidence that “the Bible” abhors and prohibits homosexual behavior and orientation. This is categorically untrue when Torah is read on its own terms (without modern hermeneutics placed upon it), for the Hebrew “Bible” has nothing to say about committed and loving homosexual relationships. Except, maybe only positive things to say about it – think about the very intimate relationship between David and Johnathan (future-king David clearly swings both ways in orientation in the actual Hebrew, and Johnathan’s father in a fit of anger eventually attempts to shame him about it, showing he knows about them!). As to the two infamous (in modern times) Leviticus same-sex prohibitions (verses), both are expressed without built-in context to explain specifically what the “lyings of woman” are, but context clearly shows that the prohibited acts are males raping another male and heterosexual males sexually substituting a male for sex “as if” he were a woman in an idolatrous sexual act.

“Ve’et zachar lo tishkav mishkevey ishah to’evah hee. And a male do not lie down with as lyings of woman, abhorrent he.” – Vayikra/Leviticus 18.22

“Ve’ish asher yishkav et-zacher mishkevey ishah to’evah asu shneyhem mot yumatu dmeyhem bam. And man that lie down with a male as lyings of woman, abhorrent to do, both of them death by execution, extreme guilt in them.” – Vayikra/Leviticus 20.13

“Where is the prohibition of a male? Because it says, `if a man,’ a man and not a minor. And it says, `lie with a male,’ whether the passive partner be an adult or a minor. And it says, `as with a woman,’ from which we learn that there are two modes of lying with a woman (that are prohibited).” – Mas. Sanhedrin 54a, 28-32

Let’s put this in perspective, two thousand years ago, before the birth of Christianity, the Rabbis clarified in the Talmud that Leviticus 18.22 and 20.13 are referring to two specific homoerotic acts between males, and not to homosexuality itself. They were a lot closer to the time this law code was written than we were, wouldn’t you agree? So is it just possible that they may have had a better understanding of the intent of this prohibition, than what is assumed by inadequate translation and exegesis in this modern age? Unfortunately, as is common with ancient law codes, the situational specifics are not written for posterity with the laws, because these laws were meant for their place and historical time. Meaning, they in their historical time understood in everyday social context what specific acts this enigmatic prohibition was referring to. For us, we have to rely on the hints of ancient teachers and the obvious context self-evidently presented in Torah as a whole. Torah presents a man raping a male and a man having religious sex with a male as these most extreme male on male abominations. Abominations worthy of death and, even, entire city destruction, at times. Now, literally, to’evah means “abhorrent” or “disgusting”, not abominable as often translated, but this is a subject for another post at another time (how to translate sacred texts without theological bias).

These prohibitions in question are a part of the codex of laws dealing with familial sexual relations that, then, extend to sexual relations with neighbors and, then, to idolatrous religious sexual practices (turning your children into sexual prostitutes or engaging in idolatrous sexual rituals) in which these prohibitions are found. Further, these verses that are focused on male-with-male sex, as with most of the prohibitions of this codex, *only* applies to Jewish males within the boundaries of the sovereign kingdom of ancient Israel. Of all the prohibitions within this part of the law codex, these two verses (18.22 and 20.13) are the only ones that are enigmatic in nature – requiring contextual clarification beyond the verse itself, clarification that would have been commonly understood during the time of their writing. Using the whole of TaNaKh as context, it is rather clear that Leviticus only prohibits the following “situational specific” acts of homosexual union: that of a male (assumed to be sexually responsive towards females) substituting a male for sex when a female is available (whether by rape or consent is not specific, but overall context leans towards rape), and that of a male having ritual sex with a sacred prostitute of his own gender (a common practice within the religions of non-Israeli nations).

“There is to be no holy-prostitute of the daughters of Israel, there is to be no holy-prostitute of the sons of Israel. You are not to bring the fee of a whore or the price of a dog (pagan priest) to the house of YHWH your G-d, for any vow; for an abomination to YHWH your G-d are the two of them!” – D’varim/Dueteronomy 23.18-19

“When (David) finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan’s soul became bound up with the soul of David; Jonathan loved David as himself. Saul took him (into his service) that day and would not let him return to his father’s house. Jonathan and David made a pact, because (Jonathan) loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the cloak and tunic he was wearing and gave them to David, together with his sword, bow, and belt.” – Shmuel 1/Samuel 1 18.1-4

It is truly amazing that the religious issue over naturally occurring “homosexuality” is still a very present and contentious issue in present scientifically and historically enlightened modern society. It is truly amazing that, to this very day, those who are LGBTQ are being stigmatized, threatened, discriminated against, demonized, and harmed within societies due to the teachings of present day theistic religions. The simple fact is, the statement that “the bible condemns homosexual acts” is simply untrue! Maybe so in English translations of the “Bible” and in Common Era (A.D.) theistic teachings of what the ancient Hebrew scrolls are saying. But, the simple fact is that Torah (and TaNaKh), the Jewish “Bible” does not condemn homosexual acts, only the very specific acts of a male raping a male and a male substituting a male for a female for sex during idolatrous fertility rituals. The Talmud of the first modern monotheistic Jewish rabbis (that replaced the Temple cult henotheistic theocratic religious system) backs this understanding of the two ancient prohibition verses in Leviticus. Homosexuality itself and homosexual relationships were not an issue to the ancient BCE Jews within their tribalistic family-Nation lifestyle.

Boynton Beach outlaws ‘conversion therapy’ on minors
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/palm-beach/fl-boynton-bans-conversion-therapy-20170104-story.html
January 4, 2017, 8:35 PM
LGBT youngsters living in Boynton Beach are free to be themselves and love who they want to love without worrying about medical efforts to change them.
The city on Tuesday became the latest municipality in South Florida to outlaw “conversion therapy,” a method aimed at converting a person’s gender identity or sexual orientation.
The Boynton Beach Commission gave initial approval to an ordinance banning licensed professionals from trying to convert the gender identity or sexual orientation of LGBT youth. Violators can be fined $500 or sued by the city, according to language in the ordinance.
Commissioner Justin Katz voiced his support for the ban Tuesday.
The ban will apply only to state-licensed therapists. To ensure its constitutionality, the law still allows unlicensed professionals, such as religious leaders, to engage in conversion therapy, the city said.

“It’s just an absurd idea that in 2016 — going on 2017 now — that people could believe that you could change someone’s sexuality through chastising them and berating them and making them hate themselves,” Katz said. “I’m happy that this ordinance has been trickling its way down Palm Beach County, and we’re able to solidify that we are protecting children regardless of their sexual orientation.” Amein!

America, Wake Up – Beware The Rise Of The Radicalized Right In American Politics!

white-national-socialist-kkk
White Nationalism and Christian Fundamentalism make up the Tea Party that rules the Republican Party.

It is said that perspective is everything. Here’s the mistake a lot of people are making about the Electoral College result in this 2016 election for the U.S. President: Despite popular mainstream belief, the racism, religious bigotry, and everyday sexism that infiltrated this American election process is not the result of an unscrupulous and manipulative opportunist called Donald Trump running for President. He’s just out to enrich his name and his businesses, regardless the cost and deception required to do so. The racism, religious bigotry, and everyday sexism is really a result of seventy years of politicized religious fundamentalism and white nationalism in the United States of America. And we can see this clearly in who is clamoring for positions of power in the next presidential administration’s government. The likes of Bannon and Pence, Flynn, Pompeo, Sessions, and DeVos. The ones that don’t make it to the inner circle are still there, as well, and are seeking presence in the sidelines, like Kobach, Giuliani, and Spencer.

If you are not scared by the choices being made for a #TrumpAdministration, then you are woefully ignorant on the history of these individuals and on American history itself, factually and demonstrably!

Compared to these deeply invested movements, the Alt-Right and Religious-Right, that is actively surrounding a Trump presidency, Trump is nothing more than a small time want-to-be autocrat with international and domestic business conflicts to the role of President. He is seeking solely to increase his personal influence at the expense of the People, and is already disregarding institutionalized barriers meant to prevent this. (Truly, you’d have to be utterly self-deceived or a fool not to see this!) This is where the likes of Kushner and Ross, Mnuchin and DeVos, come into his picture. He is making deliberate selections! But, his election by electoral proxy alone and against the voted will of the People, is not the real concern. The very present and real threat to the preservation of the United States of America as a democracy is literally all around him, and we really need to stand up as a nation against his presidency before the Electoral College decides it should be.

Here’s some trivia questions: Do you know that the Trump guy not only has real estate around the world, but is invested in the DAPL project, too? Do you know he has stock in the very companies whose people he is placing into key positions within his proposed administration? Think carefully about this! The Electoral College is set to make Trump President-elect on December 19th, despite the majority General Election vote for Hillary Clinton, if we don’t protest the Electoral College to do the “right” thing, the ethical thing. This wanna-be President is a deliberate ignorant on world affairs. Do you not think others will be doing the thinking and motivating for him, while he looks for ways to publicly glorify himself and focuses on how to get even richer? Look who he’s chosen to guide him on military action, the likes of Flynn and Mattis – two war hawks that have a record of viewing regime change as the answer to Middle East problems, and are both anti-Islamic in mindset (anti- “political Islam” and “Islamic extremism”, key word in both is “Islam” the religion)!

It’s not alarmism to say that we are in jeopardy as a democratic nation! The Alt-Right and Religious-Right have been working for this day of rising mainstream influence for decades, now. Making it appear to the public eyes that their stance is a fight for the preservation of personal liberty and conservative values, when it’s always been a fight for religious dominion over the civil affairs of this nation. For the Religious Right, they have been at this since 1945, and it’s been since the Civil Rights movement with the white Nationalists. Together, they are the Tea Party that has hijacked the Republican party. They are the ones that motivated the separatists/supremacists and Christian church-goers into lobbying their communities very hard for white votes for Donald Trump. The disillusioned buying-in by the jobless and impoverished Rust Belt voters is only a distraction from this, the Trump guy’s real base of popularity. And if America does *not* want to become yet another separatist nation governed by theocracy in this world – then, American citizens, we need to wake up, speak up, and act now!

These extremist movements in the United States are not playing around, they’ve been battling heavily against the pluralism that our nation is founded on – and doing so with a lot of monetary support – in the halls of our nation’s courts and legislative offices for decades now. Empowered by legal and legislative victories, they are convinced of the “rightness” of their cause, and no governmental structure is inviolably immune to radicalized change. Not even the American democracy, and it is to our folly to think else wise! In their minds, the United States of America is and should be a white Christian nation “under God” and “for God,” that is diametrically at odds with Islamic nations and communist nations around this world. Those of us citizens who value and support pluralism and humanism in national civil affairs are literally “the enemies of God” in their Right-wing rhetoric – and this is no joke.

We are literally seeing the same thing play out here in America that has been playing out all across the Middle East where the United States has had its forces. The only difference being, between the two, that it is white Christians who are nationalist-minded here and sectarian-oriented Arab Muslims over there – and we should rightfully be very concerned! America, we need to wake up fast and see the societal and political fields a lot more clearly, have a bit more historical and societal clarity, before it’s too late to do anything about it. The continuance of American democracy *is* at stake, if history is to be any judge, for we won’t be the constitutional-envisioned ‘of the People and by the People’ United States as a democratically-structured theocracy at endless war with its neighbors! As the radical Right said this election, the time is now to be doing something about this. #NotMyPresident #TrumpProtests #UnpaidProtestor #election2016

For a better understanding of the thinking of the political Religious-Right in the United States of America, take a look at Christian economic historian and publisher Gary North’s book:

“Political Polytheism: The Myth of Pluralism”
http://www.garynorth.com/freebooks/docs/21f2_47e.htm
Gary Kilgore North is an American Christian Reconstructionist theorist and economic historian. North has authored or coauthored over fifty books on topics including Christian theology, economics, and history.

“Political pluralism is not simply a political philosophy: it is a theology. it is American’s civil religion. … This is the problem. God-fearing Christian Americans have been told that the Constitution teaches the absolute separation of Church and State. They have been told correctly. But what they have not been told is precisely where it says this. It does not say this in the First amendment. The First amendment says only that Congress shall make no law regarding religion or the free exercise thereof. So, where does the Constitution prohibit a Christian America? In a section that has been ignored by scholars for so long that it is virtually never discussed-the key provision that transformed American into a secular humanist nation. But it took 173 years to do this: from 1788 until 1961. Political Polytheism discusses this crucial provision in detail-the first Christian book to do so in over two centuries.

But if Christ is Lord over the United States, yet the citizens of the United States either publicly deny this or are afraid to affirm it publicly, and if the elected politicians and appointed officers of the nation are legally prohibited from pursuing the implications of this fact, then what does this mean for the nation? It means that God intends to bring American under judgment. Why? Because this nation was originally founded as a Christian nation, covenanted with God, and then it broke the covenant. The results are predictable: And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish, As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God. (Deuteronomy 8:19-20)”

Only one problem, Gary North – The United States of America was *not* founded as a “Christian nation,” at all! That is, according to the verifiable historical facts in our nation’s archives. The United States of America was founded as a colonist secession from the rule of Britain over a dispute about unfair forced taxation without representation. The United States’ constitution is a direct product of 1700’s European ‘Era of Enlightenment (Age of Reason)’ ideology and Deist religious philosophy. The beliefs of this time, which are enshrined in the United States constitution, were a government that is ran by the collective will “of the People” as ultimate national authority, and a separation of governmental powers into three branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial) to ensure that this nation not become an oligarchy ruled by a specific monarchy or religion. Hence, the Establishment and Free Exercise clauses in the U.S. constitution, along with the No Religious Test clause for political/governmental office further in.

In contrast to the teaching of modern fundamentalist Christians who have re-invented history with hermeneutic spins, the United States was *not* founded on the religious beliefs of the Christian Pilgrims (Puritans) that settled in America in the early 1600’s. Though, fundamentalist Christians of modern times would have us believe this, and have worked hard to teach this over the last several decades. Those Pilgrims, for all their religiosity, yes, did indeed believe that the American continent which they settled on belonged to them, rather than belonging to the “savages” (Native Americans) who they mercilessly fought and slaughtered for control of the land. Yes, they possessed the idea of America as their “promised land,” while they gave thanks to their Christian god for the successful annihilation and enslavement of the indigenous people of this land. These are indeed in the historical writings of the colony leaders.

If this is the legacy to which modern Christian fundamentalism wishes to derive their belief in an original Judeo-Christian constitutional covenant for the land to be eventually known as the United States, then they are definitely inline with the over all history of Christianity around the world – that of ‘convert or die’ being the operative religious social methodology. The modern Christian theologies of Dominion-ism, Creationism, and Biblical Capitalism have their roots in 20th Century American Christian thinking, far removed from the thinking of the Founders of this American nation. Founders who would be appalled at the very idea of this nation being “a Christian nation” that is under the rule of a theistic Christian god. And this is unalterable historical fact! To preserve a national democracy “of the People” is to keep church separated from state, and uphold “liberty and justice” for all this nation’s citizens, regardless their religious and political personal leanings or lack thereof. Every citizen has a voice, and it is oppression to stifle the needed hearing of this voice!

For those interested, here is a source for studying the literature of early American colonization:

American Literature/Colonial Period (1620s-1776)
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/American_Literature/Colonial_Period_(1620s-1776)
Many American literature textbooks cover the colonial period genre by genre. The danger in doing this is time distortion. This period of literature spans almost 300 years, longer by far than all of the other periods of literature put together. The other problem with covering this period by genre is that many of its most famous writers wrote in more than one genre, so the same writer must be considered multiple times. A final disadvantage is the proximity of many of the genres to another genre. For example, how different can a work in philosophy be from a religious tract when a religious background is assumed by the author? Many political writers touch heavily on history, and vice versa. Given these considerations, it is more fruitful to cover this period diachronically while keeping possible genres in mind.
Aside from span of time, another consideration that makes this period unique from all the others is that the writers in this period had no idea they were writing anything that could be classified as American literature. These writers were mostly British, and all were heavily indebted to British literature writing conventions long since established in the motherland. No other period of American literature is as derivative of English literature as the colonial period.

There is also the Cambridge History of American Literature:, Volume 1; Volumes 1590-1820 to reference for scholarly studies of this historical time period.

For those interested, here is a source for studying the ‘Era of Enlightenment’ and ‘Age of Reason’ European philosophies that informed the thoughts of those forming an independent nation from Britain in North America:

History Channel – Era of Enlightenment, Age of Reason, Scientific Revolution
http://www.history.com/topics/enlightenment
European politics, philosophy, science and communications were radically reoriented during the course of the “long 18th century” (1685-1815) as part of a movement referred to by its participants as the Age of Reason, or simply the Enlightenment. Enlightenment thinkers in Britain, in France and throughout Europe questioned traditional authority and embraced the notion that humanity could be improved through rational change. The Enlightenment produced numerous books, essays, inventions, scientific discoveries, laws, wars and revolutions. The American and French Revolutions were directly inspired by Enlightenment ideals and respectively marked the peak of its influence and the beginning of its decline. … It was also a time of religious (and anti-religious) innovation, as Christians sought to reposition their faith along rational lines and deists and materialists argued that the universe seemed to determine its own course without God’s intervention. … The Enlightenment ultimately gave way to 19th-century Romanticism.

I so wish I could have taken a picture of it to show, an SUV window that sums up the nature of Southern attitudes in the Un-united States of America in our present 21st Century. Imagine a black Dodge SUV and on this SUV’s back window is a large confederate flag, a white Christian cross, and a #TrumpPence2016 campaign set of stickers, all placed deliberately upon the back window to make a clear statement.

It proves a point being made: That the evidence of the surge of Evangelical-Alt-Right-ism in the Un-united States of America, seeking to turn America into a white Christian Nationalist nation, is everywhere! I see it near everyday in so many public places living here in the South. It is the very reason that the Electoral College was skewed this #election2016 toward voting against the clear voted will of the People, by voting in partisan allegiance on December 19th for the loser, that #Trump guy, of the November 8th general election.

As a nation, what are we going to do about this? We need #TruthandReconciliation in the United States of America, like has been happening in South Africa and in Canada. We need #RestorativeJustice in the United States of America, and a recognition that racism disproportionately affects all aspects of living as an ethnic minority in America. And, we need to support the #NationalPopularVote to remove the disenfranchisement of most voters votes across this country and, especially within the cities, in favor of the electoral decision of a few white majority populated states who get to decide the presidential election for the rest of us.

We need Truth and Reconciliation in the United States of America. #NativeLivesMatter and #BlackLivesMatter in the United States of America! Time for white America to share it’s #WhitePrivilege with the rest of the citizens of this nation.
